My name is Alexander Cammacho. I’m currently in federal prison serving a 192-month sentence for cannabis.”
Alexander has been incarcerated since November 8, 2017, sentenced to 16 years in federal custody for selling marijuana—a plant that is now legal in most of the country. A father and grandfather, Alexander’s absence has been devastating to his loved ones.
“It’s hard on my family the most because I was a big source of income. My family has suffered greatly from me being in jail.”
While behind bars, Alexander has watched the world change. Cannabis is now a booming legal industry, yet he remains locked away, unable to support his children or grandchildren, who still need him.
“It’s killing me because I know [cannabis] doesn’t kill anybody. You’ve got drugs that are killing hundreds of thousands of people, and I’m sitting here doing 15 years and 11 months for something that’s not hurting anybody—and it’s legal.”
Alexander is one of thousands still imprisoned for non-violent cannabis offenses, sentenced under outdated laws that no longer reflect our current values. He is not a danger to society. He is a family man-forgotten by a system that continues to punish people for something others are now making millions from.
It’s time to bring him home.
It’s time to end the hypocrisy and demand justice for cannabis prisoners. Join us today.
